Laying instructions for floating parquetAcclimatization, control and planks assortment:Before laying, it is important to keep the parquet and also the sub-flooring and the skirtings during at least one week in the room where they are going to be laid. Place the packages flat on the ground. Do not unpack them. Do not place them against an outside wall. The relative air humidity should be around 55% (+/- 5%) and the ambient temperature between 18° and 22°.After this acclimatization, you may unpack the parquet. Check every plank and ensure that they are not damaged. Put the damaged planks aside and do not use them. It is advised to mix the planks from different packages in order to reduce natural colour and wood structure contrasts. Ground preparation:The surface of the ground should be flat, dry (and stay dry) and stable. Ensure that the surface is nor greasy nor dusty. On all surfaces ensure a Damp Proof Membrane is installed or a foam underlay with a built-in polythene membrane. Ensure that the joints overlap largely, glue them with a waterproof aluminum tape. Raise the sheet on the walls to stop humidity up to half-height of the skirtings.Place an insulating under-layer, for instance made out of polyurethane foam or softboard. Be sure that the joints of the under-layer are perpendicular to those of the parquet. Place the planks preferably in the direction of the length of the room because the dimensional variations occur mainly in the width of the planks. In smaller rooms, one can for aesthetic reasons take the length of the walls and the angle of incidence of the light into consideration: the room will appear longer and narrower when the planks are placed lengthwise. If placed breadthwise, the room will appear wider and shorter. If placed perpendicular to the light, the joints between the planks are more visible. Flooring installation:Every wooden flooring "works". It is necessary to have an expansion space of at least 15 mm between the flooring and the walls as well as between the flooring and the door-sills, door-frames, leadings, etc.Place a block (at least 15 mm thick) every 40 cm against the wall. Install the first row of planks with the tongue against the blocks. Always work from left to right in order to match the ends easier (the tongue of one head in the groove of the preceding one). Measure the length of the last plank in that row, mark the plank using the square and cut it on the right length. Then remove this first row and saw off the tongue of the planks (lengthwise) and put them again in place as before. Start the following row with the remaining end of the last plank. The following planks are placed as follows: put the tongue of the plank to be installed in the groove of the preceding plank so the ends on the left side are well overlapping. Press the board downward in order to ensure a good joining between the planks. Check the alignment of the rows with a cord. When you saw the last plank in the width, be sure to maintain an expansion space of minimum 15 mm. Then remove the blocks and end up with the placing of the skirtins. The JoYn® flooring are pre-finished, therefore do not require any other treatment. Before placing your pieces of furniture, we advise to dry-clean your parquet by sweeping or vacuum-cleaning it (vacuum-cleaner fitted with a brush); then protect it using the "YEPP® Conditioner". See hereunder, the item "maintenance and cleaning". (If you do not want to install your flooring floating or in case the site circumstances do not allow to do so, it is obviously always possible to glue your JoYn® parquet, either only in the tongue/groove either on the ground as well. Take advise from your glue supplier for more information.) Maintenance and cleaning:The daily care has to be done "dry" in order to remove the dirt or the sand using a sweep or a vacuum cleaner fitted with a brush. If needed, clean with a slightly wet cloth. Be sure not to damp the flooring too much because water damages wood. Sand and dirt have the same effect as emery-paper and should be removed swiftly to prevent scratching of the finishing. Use therefore good door-mats and put protecting patches under the legs of your pieces of furniture (if applicable put rolls "special flooring" )under your seats. In order to reduce the natural "working" of the wood, the ambient temperature should remain between 18° and 22° and the relative humidity of the air between 50 and 60 % during all the year. When the daily care has become insufficient to ensure a perfectly clean flooring, treat it with the YEPP® maintenance products. For this you need to know which type of finishing has been brought on your parquet. You find this information on the label on the packaging. For each type of finishing, there are two maintenance products: a Conditioner for the periodical maintenance and a Cleaner for the deep cleaning. Those two products are added to the cleaning water and applied with a slightly wet cloth. The YEPP® Conditioner not only removes the dirt but also ensures the feeding and the protection of the wood. The YEPP® Cleaner removes the residue of the Conditioner, the encrusted dirt and the dirt which has not been removed by the Conditioner. After a cleaning with the Cleaner, one has to apply the Conditioner again in order to maintain the wood properly. ADVICE: ask your local distributor for the maintenance instruction manual. Warranty:The warranty applies only to the bad production workmanship of the flooring and not on the defects peculiar to the wood. The warranty does not apply to damages due to the natural working of the wood as for example open joins, those damages cannot lead to a whatever claim. Wood is a natural product, it is normal that it "works" i.e. it swells when the relative humidity of the ambient air is too high and contracts in the opposite circumstances. The warranty never covers damages or the costs incurred which are the consequence of a bad workmanship or a defect of the wood. When a claim is deemed acceptable, the indemnity is restricted to the replacement of the bad planks by the local JoYn® distributor and this in function of the availability of the current range of comparable quality. The warranty is always calculated "pro rata". The warranty does not apply if the installation or maintenance and cleaning instructions here above have not been respected. No claim will be accepted for a parquet which has been installed, shaped or used in whatever way. The claim must be introduced in writing via your local JoYn® dealer within 20 days of the acknowledgement of the damage. Any right to the warranty expires 6 months after the date of purchase. In case of a claim, the proof of purchase together with the date of purchase and the name of the retailer will be required. JoYn® reserves its right to refuse some recourses to the warranty. |
